[edit] Links
Hey Bill -- so you got the welcome thing happening, that's awesome. I have another tip for you that'll make your life easier -- when you link to a page that's on your wiki, all you have to do is put it in double brackets, like this: Iowa. You only use the single bracket and http:// address when you're linking to something outside the wiki.
That also works for user pages: User:Gil will link to User:Gil. -- Danny (talk) 17:41, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Welcoming committee
I saw your welcome for Shimaneko -- it's beautiful, it's like watching the baby bird learn to fly. If you want to do some welcomes for the IP addresses too, just click on the red talk link, add , and then sign it. That adds the Welcome template. -- Danny (talk) 19:59, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- I guess it's fitting that my current user page has a penguin in it? I'm still drowning. :) But you continue to be a lifesaver (and I don't mean the Butter Rum kind). Despite expert late night online instruction from Splarka, I still have a ways to go before I master templates. I was going to cheat and just figure out a way to lift that whole Welcome template from one of your welcome pages. Next stop... dropping your template on contributors with IP address only. Thanks! -- BillK (talk) 20:11, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's why I'm here! So it's for IP addresses and for people who've signed in with usernames.
- If you figure out more things that you want to do, but can't figure out how, just leave a message on my talk page, okay? -- Danny (talk) 23:39, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Cities wiki
Thanks for joining the Welcoming Committee on Towns, Villages and Cities too, Bill. We have "welcome" templates there too, one of them shorter. Great personal message you left for the Starkville contributor. Robin Patterson 19:38, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Two Bills
Hi Bill -- It was nice meeting you at the conference this weekend! I'm home now, and looking at this wiki -- and I noticed that you have two different user names. The one that has your user page is Billk, and the one that you seem to be using to make edits is BillK. The capital letters matter in titles and user names on wikis. If you want to use BillK, then you ought to move your user page over here too.
Let me know if I can help you with any wiki stuff, okay? Take care -- Danny (talk) 02:16, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- Danny - Thanks for pointing out the multiple user pages... don't you think it fits my many personalities? :)
- I've created my new userpage which I hope you'll take a look at and let me know what you think. I've also put a pointer from Billk to BillK to eliminate confusion.
- Thanks! [BillK] (talk)
- Actually, I just realized there's something wrong in the signature you created. Try this:
- Click on the "preferences" tab at the top right of your screen.
- On the Preferences page, put this in the Nickname box:
- -- <font color="Blue">BillK</font> (<font color="Blue" size="1">talk</font>)
- Then check the "Raw signatures" box underneath, and hit save.
- When you sign your talk posts, type ~~~~, and the new signature will appear.
- Danny - Thanks. I definitely see the value of an accurate signature with timestamp on talk pages. But I am not sure I would want signatures on articles. What are your thoughts on that? -- BillK (talk) 19:43, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Nice user page
[Gil] ([talk]) 06:52, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
(I left a note before, but I think it was on your "other" user page, so it disappeared.) The Dr. Seuss quote is wondeful! And, the picture is great! Thanks for your note about the Travel Alerts page. I was playing with other ideas for the main page on Main Page/alt. If you like any of them, feel free to use them. I'm sorry we didn't get to meet at Wikimania. Wasn't that a great, but aptly named conference? --CocoaZen 01:07, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Cannon Beach picture
Hey Bill, thanks for the cudos on my photography. Hopefully I won't forget to attibute other people's photos the way I do my own! See ya, Terry Foote 19:31, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Taganrog
Hello Bill, I'm a native of Taganrog, just returned from over there a couple of weeks ago. I am fairly familiar with Russian South, not so much with other parts of Russia, although I have also been to Moscow and St. Petersburg on numerous occasions. --EngrProf 11:48, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wonderful Prague Discussion
Thank you Bill for the great information on Prague. This is really a wonderful site, and my husband, Bob Schwabach, and I look forward to telling our readers about it for the "On Computers" column. Bob is of Bohemian ancestry but has never been there.
[edit] Wikia screencasts
Bill - I've posted another test screencast on blip.tv (I've given up on youtube). It's more legible than the ones I made last night, but I think it's still too small. Ideas? - Leo|Talk 18:14, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
- I created another screencast (Editing 01). This video ran 4.5 min, was 105MB, and took forever to upload. Should probably keep clips to around 3 mins. Also created a page to organize my screencasts. I'll post further updates there, so you might want to watchlist it. We can discuss the process, ideas, lesson plans, etc on its talk page. We can create a similar Help page in Wikia later to organize screencasts from all contributors. - Leo|Talk 21:56, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Egypt Lover
Okay Bill, I think I got it. The formatting will come along I guess, I'm figuring it out. Is there a man page for general style guidelines? Thanks for the help. - Joshjradd 22:24, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Global Warming
Thanks! I'm looking forward to seeing it (An Inconvenient Truth). Seems like the discussion would be appropriate to World, Cities, Campaigns or, if it exists, an ecology Wikia. :-)
Did you know that Jimbo is on Charlie Rose tonight? (I should be sleeping, but I turned on the TV to get my mind off my stomach ache, and there he was on the blurb, so I'm setting up a tape. I'm going to try to sleep again now.) Anyway, after I see the movie, I think I'd like to discuss it... Wanna pick a wiki-place? --CocoaZen 04:44, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Welcome to World Wikia!
Your kind message to me: Bhadani - You bring to World Wikia quite an editing reputation and have made huge contributions to Wikipedia. So glad to have you here. Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to focus on a specific area. Hope to see you back here soon. Thanks!
- Hello Bill, I thank you for your kind and encouraging words. It is the spirit of wiki, which has brought me here; all other aspects are incidental to this central desire. I shall be feeling the water during the week end, and then shall come back again to you with specific queries, particularly as regards the missing links, if any, which we all participants have to connect to make the World Wikia truly reflective of the aspirations of our users. Was I right about your full name? Regards. --Bhadani 14:06, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] New wiki-er
Hi Bill,
Thanks for helping me set up the Jackson Hole Wiki (and making some adjustments to my first effort). This is my first wiki, and I'm afraid I'm not doing it justice....having problems getting it listed on the village/city pages etc. I'm still learning, but I'm a bit overwhelmed! Any guidance you could give me would be really appreciated.
Thanks,
Lauryn
[edit] And countries...
Yes, despite the name, the Cities Wikia has country pages, and I think additional country content would be very appropriate. Thank you!
By the way, I created the W template on Cities to make it easier to link to the "equivalent" page on World. The template could use some improvement, but I hope it helps. (Example: Little Rock, Arkansas) Right now it searches the World site for matches. (I used the local link on World as a starting point.)
I'd like a version that takes a variable so you could specify the page name when they aren't exactly the same. For instance Little Rock on one Wikia should link to Little Rock, AK on the other. I haven't had time to get that improvement right yet. Later...

[edit] Audio Guides
Hi Bill,
Congrats for the great work you guys are doing. I was wondering if you were interested in a partnership with my website MP3Travel.com where I provide audio guides for free based on articles we wrote or pulled from different wikis. I am really open to discuss any possibilities to help travellers' eyes or ears! Thanks.

[edit] Image licence
Hi Bill. I uploaded an image for use in Chandigarh page: http://world.wikia.com/wiki/Image:Chandigarhroundabout.jpg - my source was http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Chandigarhroundabout.jpg
However, we do not have a Template:Cc-by-sa-2.5. What should be done by me? Thanks. --Bhadani 18:33, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
- Perhaps I could tag with the correct licencing: http://world.wikia.com/index.php?title=Image:Chandigarhroundabout.jpg&diff=14620&oldid=14616 --Bhadani 18:55, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Indian cities
I added few more cities to India but failed to create the Navigation Template:Navigation. I tried for Template:Navigation/Chennai and Template:Navigation/Ahmedabad. It seems they are not working. Please correct my mistakes. Thanks. --Bhadani 14:41, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Perhaps they are working. Did you do something? Please tell me so that I may avoid repeating the same mistake in future. Thanks. --Bhadani 15:50, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- One more query: while creating contents, a number of redlinks surface. I think we should create at least stubs of reasonable content of 200/300 words to describe/ define the redlinks and make them glow wikia blue? What do you say? However, the priority should surely continue to be to make the major page seeded with appropraite contents. I look forward to your advice and suggestions. --Bhadani 15:57, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks
Thanks for the invite. How did you get GoogleMaps working?! Is that available on all wikia now?
As soon as I get finished with that little distraction (GMaps), I'll see what I can add to Washington. Chadlupkes 20:04, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Template buttons
Hey, I noticed that you made some preloading templates over at LOST Wiki. I was really impressed, so I adapted them for use with Wiki 24. Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you - it's a wonderful feature and should help us a lot. --StBacchus 04:05, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Talk:Ko Samui
Hello. It seems I did some silly things while moving this page. I am unable to figure out how to rectify the mistake. Thanks in advance. --Bhadani 18:17, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
- I think I fixed it. Look okay to you now? -- BillK (talk) 23:29, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
- Great. Thank you. --Bhadani 02:40, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Maiori etc.
Hi Bill, thanks for your welcome. Well, yes, I have to write still something on my user page ... I'll do that asap. I am preparing a proposal for the City of Maiori and I would like them to support entries about and around the city here, on Wikipedia, Wikitravel, OpenStreetmaps etc. through contests in schools. This would lead to a stronger community feeling here in the town, hopefully good and npov articles and new editers for various projects, depending on who feels more at home on which wiki. People are different and therefore I suppose they will go where they feel best and where they are able to really do. If possible there will be some wiki-editing courses. World Wikia as well as many other projects also meet with some plans we have in mind for tourism in general ... some kind of Open Tourism ;-) Well, when time is due, I suppose we will think about this. For now: I have to finish the proposal. I was searching for a really good city to show as an example... so I would be really greatful if you could show me one. Thanks for now! --SabineCretella 18:11, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Bill, thanks for the links - so I can print out some bits and pieces :-) As for the contest: I am proposing it and hope they will accept to do it that way, otherwise: we will need to do it in another way. The thing is: I should not do things myself, but show people how to do instead - that brings more results in the end. Have a great Sunday! --SabineCretella 09:44, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Re: Please Vote
Hi Bhadani
Please consider adding your votes and/or comments about some possible logos for World.
Thanks! -- BillK (talk) 19:23, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for drawing my notice to this matter. I would surely do so in a day or two - I find difficult to make my choice. But, I shall surely vote. --Bhadani 21:38, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks for copy editing
I thank you for copy editing Siwa/Exploring & Siwa/Restaurants and after reading about foods, I am feeling a bit hungry :) - shall come back after some time. Thanks for copy editing again. --Bhadani 15:42, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Languages
Hi Bill, world wikia for now exists only in English. Considering that not too much time is needed to get a kind of a multilingual wiki on its way (have to ask where it stands now). Anyway ... back to my thoughts: there are people who feel more comfortable to write in other languages than English. Now what if we create simply subpages of each page that lead to the various languages? A bit like here - that is also the way used on meta. In such a way at least anybody could add information in another language and other people could translate things. This would also avoid the necessity to set up multiple wikis (I always find it a bit a pity when you have to divide on multiple places, since the bigger the community is the faster we grow and the more likely people will start to edit.
I just had someone at the door now - a girl that goes to the local tourism school. She asked me for help with the writing in German of a description of a city on the island of Ischia. The text is in Italian ... and we will have it in German - should we simply start the page? I would like to invite her to join us and add her text in Italian and German - we could then create English out of that. Now I have to think over again ... what if we invite the whole class to do the same? Each person should have a different city to describe. And by looking at the pages she gave me: there is also French (even if the quality needs to be improved ... but it would be a "start" - we just need a template that says: this page needs copyediting in <language>. Also for German: her version will be quite simple German - but: that can than be changed ... Have to think .... Your thoughts? Ciao :-) --SabineCretella 08:38, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Hitchhiking wikia page changes
Hello, I've come back to the wikia hitchhiking page after a few weeks of not looking at it and it's changed all over! Would you know something about such big changes on it? -FB
- The hitchhiking wikia has moved to http://www.hitchwiki.org a few days ago. --MrTweek
- Well, apparently Wikia decided to "move" all Hitchhiking pages to the World Wikia after our move to the Hitchwiki. All active contributors of the Hitchhiking Wikia have moved to the Hitchwiki.org. GuakaTalkCS 11:16, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
- FB - With the departure of Guaka, it was clear that there was no one as qualified or dedicated to look after the Hitchhiking Wikia. So we decided to move the content from each city on Hitchhiking Wikia to the appropriate city guide on World. In addition to finding the information in the "Tips for Hitchhikers" section of each travel guide, I've started a directory here. Not finished yet...hope to get to it soon. Personally, I'm bummed that the Hitchhiking.wikia crowd decided to move on. Having done some thumbing around Australia, New Zealand and Europe when I was 18, the wiki was one of my favorites. Thanks, ---- BillK (talk) 19:07, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Forums
Are there any forum pages here yet? It might be useful to have a general forum for asking travel advice. For questions like this: What am I meant to do if I arrive in London at 6am on a Thursday and want to stay until 10am on Friday. Do I need to book 2 nights in a hotel, even though I've basically missed the first night (but will want to sleep during the day to get over the jet lag)? I thought you might know. :) Angela talk 15:09, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
Bill: The forum namespace is now working, and I threw all the existing forum topics into the general travel forum. See Forum:Index for an overview. --Splarka (talk) 10:02, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks!
Thanks for the welcome - I would love to add to the guides! Would you be so kind as to follow a couple of my edits around and fix if necessary? I pick up very quickly! NinaOdell 00:58, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Finis Mundi
Bill, Yes I've spent a couple of months in Ushuaia, loved it, and taken an UNFORGETTABLE trip to Antarctica but aboard the ´Ushuaia´. I'd have loved to taken one of those russian icebreakers. Was it the Proffesor Molosov? Cheers --Geogeezer 05:51, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
Nice! Real big one. The ¨Ushuaia¨ was kinda small and one could feel the striking waves of the Drake pass. I enjoyed that as I used to sail but I think I was the only one not terrified. I understand they use those those icebreakers to reach the New Siberian Islands as well. --Geogeezer 06:44, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
Bill, u started world wikia!?!?! Wow, I thank you so much. I'm 22 and was just thrilled to find out about this. Just like you, I love to travel whenever, wherever. Salut! --Geogeezer 06:50, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] You're an Admin!
Hi Bhandani
I've made you an admin on World and look forward to your continued help. Thanks for all your work so far.
Cheers, -- BillK (talk) 23:25, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Bill. I am delighted. I will try to do justice to my role and it shall be my endeavour to build a great community of Wikians here! Thanks and regards. --Bhadani 16:11, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Back to the World
Hey Bill, I didn't mean to leave you hanging but I was busy beyond normal (biking accident, shoulder surgery - I'm up and about now -, school, etc). But I'm fine now and would love to help you guys run this wiki. I'll be editing some more in these days, so keeping in touch, Matt. --Geogeezer 07:07, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Username
Bill,
As you know, I misspelled my username. Is there any way I can change it to "JuWiki"? Also, I have started editing the TV Wiki. It needs some major work. JuWki 15:14, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Wiki
Hey BillK, the wiki you supported (the Craig Ferguson Wiki), was accepted, and I wanted to know if you would like to contribute there. Get back to me here when you can. Brain40 21:33, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] License and creating contents
Hi Bill, I have a meeting tomorrow with a person that has a tourism portal in Italian. What I got over already is that it makes sense to publish their contents under free licenses so that it can be integrated into world.wikia and wikitravel. I have two concerns now: if we develop content here, in a second stage it will be probably used for a print version - that is: we would develop the contents online and then create a book about the Amalfi Coast out of it. How does that match with the actual GFDL license? I know it is quite problematic due to the request that the history needs to be included. - A second question is: the actual contents will be in Italian, but I would not open a separate wiki in Italian for it ... that is: it does not make sense to my opinion and it would just create multiple admin work. I would not have these problems with Wikitravel, which is already present in various languages, but ... well ... I'd like to add it here and I always prefer to keep the community bigger instead of dividing it into small bits and pieces - IMHO this makes the community weaker. Probably we will add the contents on both wikis also because the development will be different because of different communities ... but: it would make sense to understand how we can do things here. Maybe a double license CC-BY-SA + GFDL would be a good choice ... is that still feasable on world wikia? Ciao and have a great day! --Sabine Cretella 08:20, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Sabine. It is possible to dual-license articles here. If this is important for printing the content, I suggest you make a template to use on articles that are part of this project. Angela talk 20:46, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Hello Bill
Very sorry for the misunderstanding of your site there, Matthew Bora has done other types of TV series we though it would be ok to upload his Entertainment info on your site, is there anywhere we can mention something about him on your site? We are just trying to get the word out on this tlanted new upcomer.
Thank you very much! Vena Z.
- Hi Vena Z.
- I am not sure what you are trying to accomplish. Could you please send a more specific request to community (at) wikia.com.
- Thanks, -- BillK
