Overview
Royal Chitwan National Park/Image
The Royal Chitwan National Park is the oldest among the 14 national parks and reserves in Nepal. Whereas the city of Kathmandu and many other places are located in the relatively higher levels of the Himalayas, the Royal Chitwan National Park is in the lower areas, actually almost the plains called the Tarai regions of Nepal. These regions are generally thickly forested and have many flora and fauna. The Royal Citwan National Park too has many rare species of endangered animals and birds. You may take jungle safaris sitting on the back of an elephant or use jeeps for moving around the National Park. The Park is home to many Royal Bengal tigers, one-horned rhinoceros, leopards, wild elephants, Indian bisons, sloth bears, crocodiles, pythons, monitor lizards and many other animals. Over 400 varieties of birds make the park lively from dusk to dawn by their unique sounds, and during the nights too you may listen many sounds. A stay in this National Park shall be a life time experience.
