Overview
Pondicherry, currently known as Puducherry, is the capital city of the Indian Union Territory of the same name, Pondicherry state. The small and beautiful city was the capital of of of the French colonies of India and the place has earned the nickname of the French Rivera on the East, and rightly so as the French influence continues to permeate the social and cultural life of the city - even French is one of the official language of the state.
Pondicherry attracts more than half a million tourists every year and the number is steadily rising. You will find tourists of many nationalities in Pondicherry and the place attracts hordes of domestic tourists as well. naturally, the place remains vibrant round the year.

Peaceful Pondicherry is really a delight for any tourist. It has many dimensions – encompassing the natural as well as the spiritual. The following are must visit places of Pondicherry:

Shopping
You will find that Shopping in Pondicherry is a real fun: from bargaining from the pavement sellers to the shopping malls and plazas, Pondicherry Shopping Experience. And, on top of these, there is held a Sunday Market every Sunday, where you will find a variety of items, from fresh exotic fruits to handicrafts and innumerable other items. However, be prepared to be part of a crowded market, Pondicherry Sunday Market remains very crowded all the time.

Generally, shops remain open from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and from 4.00 p.m. to 10 p.m. On Sundays, many shops remain closed.
