Little Rock is the state capital and largest city of Arkansas. The census bureau estimated the city population to be 184,564 in 2005. The core metropolitan area had 643,272 people in the 2005 census estimates and is included in the Combined Statistical area of Little Rock, N.Little Rock and Pine Bluff which had a population of 819,469 people in 2005 census estimates.

The Little Rock area has almost all hotels chains available. The Litte Rock Peabody Hotel is one of only three in the world.

Among the tourist destinations in Little Rock are the state capital and the River Market district in downtown which is an entertainment locale.

Historically, the Arkansas Territorial Restoration and the MacArthur Museum are popular destinations.

The Clinton Presidential Library is located on the edge of downtown Little Rock.

Across the Arkansas River in North Little Rock is the U.S.S. Razorback submarine and the Old Mill, which was in the opening scenes of the movie Gone with the Wind.

Little Rock National Airport handles 2,500,000 passengers a year. It connects directly to more than eighteen cities.

Interstates 30 and 40 flow through the Little Rock area with Interstates 430, 630, 530 and 440 as connecting routes. U.S. highways 65, 67 and 70 go through the area also.

Little Rock is a connecting point for Amtrak passenger trains.
