Overview
Bhubaneshwar, literally meaning the Lord of the Universe, has virtually remained synonymous with the characters associated with its name, a city of many temples and the seat of the mighty Kalinga Empire of antiquity - more than 2,000 years old. Presently too, the city is the capital of the Indian state of Orissa. The modern city was the result of a planned effort under the direction of Otto H. Koenigsberger, a German town planner. The well conceived plan is reflected in most parts of the city though with increasing population (around one million), the city is facing challenges to maintain its beautiful outlook. The city is the part of the golden triangle tourist circuit of Orissa comprising of itself (Bhubaneshwar), Puri and Konark.
