Overview

Benin/Image

Benin (official name: the Republic of Benin) is a country located in the western part of Africa. Until 1975, it was as Dahomey or Dahomania. It covers an area of 112,622 km² and its population is 8,439,000 (2005). Benin has many ethnic groups and the present population is a mixture of many such groups. The people of Benin have developed a distinct martial culture which is rarely found in other parts of Africa.
